Texas Monthly magazine has called it the ‘Best Shakespeare in Texas,’ and it rivals theater performances in Dallas or Houston. It is the Texas Shakespeare Festival, and it is celebrating its 25th season on the Kilgore College Campus.

Recently the Texas Economic Development Council recognized just 35 communities in the state of Texas and only two in the Northeast Texas region as having excellence in economic development.  As honored as we are, attaining this recognition has never been our goal.  In reviewing the application, Kilgore Economic Development staff discovered we already exceeded the threshold for what the statewide professional organization considers excellence.

Continuing education for the KEDC staff does more than just build the resumes of our professionals.  It keeps us current on the best ways to serve our constituents.  I attended an excellent seminar recently on reinvestment zones and how to apply them to benefit our local economy.  Lisa Denton, our assistant director, is a new board member for BREI, Business Retention and Expansion International.  BREI is the leading international professional association for business retention and expansion.  KEDC retention activities account for more t

The Business Information Center of the Kilgore Small Business Development Center donated a SMART Technologies Airliner Wireless Slate to Kilgore Economic Development Corporation.

  Brad Bunt, director of the Kilgore College SBDC, said the donation to KEDC will enhance the business services available to Kilgore employers through Synergy Center.

Dr. Charles Whiteside is a success story.  He is a Texas A&M University graduate, founder of  the East Texas section of the American Chemical Society, former chairman of the chemistry department at Kilgore College and owner of Ana-Lab Corp. in Kilgore, among other honors.  And now he is being recognized at an ACS meeting in Washington D.C. later this month.  Dr. Whiteside is among the first class to be elected as a Fellow of the ACS.
