Foreign trade zone expansion urged

The alternative site framework for Gregg County's foreign trade zone should allow more local companies to take advantage of the program, a Missouri attorney told a local group Tuesday.

With an alternative site framework in place, companies do not have to be located in a foreign trade zone to receive the benefits — only in the county that has the designation.

Gregg County, Kilgore Economic Development Corp. and Longview Economic Development Corp. will offer a Foreign Trade Zone seminar from 9 a.m. to noon on March 2 at the LeTourneau University flight facility at East Texas Regional Airport.

Scott Taylor, attorney at Miller & Co., will discuss the new Alternate Site Framework (ASF) designation of Gregg County's Foreign Trade Zone, including which companies can benefit, along with the activation process. He also will be available to meet with individual companies afterward to answer any questions or discuss potential financial savings for individual companies.

Gregg County, Kilgore Economic Development Corporation and Longview Economic Development Corporation are offering a Foreign Trade Zone seminar March 2, 2010, from 9 AM to noon at the LeTourneau flight facility to introduce area manufacturers to the new Alternate Site Framework (ASF) designation of the Gregg County Foreign Trade Zone. The flight facility if located at East Texas Regional Airport on FM 349.
