    Learn about your local emergency department before you need it, Dr. Craig Meek says.
    "I'm excited to see the first patient," he said. The new ER has been ready since February, Meek added, but administrators are still acquiring the necessary credentials from the state before opening for business. "We're working through that. We're probably looking at mid-May."

    This past week represented the end of a nearly 10-year era for the staff of the General Dynamics Satcom Technologies plant in Kilgore. Tuesday was a day of celebration for the dozens of workers who have been involved in producing major high-tech components of giant radio telescopes. The last 25 units left Kilgore headed for a 16,500-foot desert plateau in Chile, according to General Dynamics Senior Project Director Brian D. Schrader.

    “We’ve produced more than 6 million pounds of structure here in the past five years,” he said. But the planning for producing the telescopes and their pedestals started about 10 years ago and included construction of a special building to accommodate the project. That facility will not go to waste now the ALMA project is complete. “We have other projects lined up already,” he said.

    It may be the season to spring forward, but Kilgore's downtown merchants will turn back the clock April 28 for their Retro Retail Sidewalk Sale in the Main Street district.
    While many pricetags will reflect vintage values, the event's atmosphere will reflect days gone by as well, with classic cars on display near popcorn, lemonade and cotton candy stands in addition to free helium balloons and the soundtrack of the disco era.

    AT&T U-Verse Buzz Summer 2012 Road Trip is a project to be launched online and broadcasted on one of the company’s channels with the AT&T U-Verse, a service that provides television broadcasting and numerous other services. The nation’s culture is the focus of the videos.
    Kleberob and the Road Trip filming crew have traveled to key locations in American culture.  Kilgore College’s East Texas Oil Museum provides a detailed look at the oil boom that hit East Texas in the 1930s. 
    The film crew went on the road about three weeks ago. The last major stop the crew had was in New Orleans before the team traveled to Kilgore. By the end of Monday night, the crew had already made their way to Dallas to prepare for more filming.

    Representatives of the Center for a Livable World met with Kilgore representatives last Friday to discuss three areas of livability; economy, environment and society.
    This meeting was only a part of a larger project being performed in Kilgore. The City of Kilgore Livability Pilot Project seeks to find ways Kilgore can become a more attractive city for residents and outsiders.
