District: Kilgore Independent School District

Established: 1906

Roots: Few facts are known about the schools until the 1920-30 school year when Kilgore ISD was accredited by the state.

Number of campuses then: One, about where Kilgore High School is at 711 N. Longview St.

Number of campuses now: Six:

- Kilgore Heights, grades prekindergarten and kindergarten, 701 Houston St.

- Chandler Elementary, grades one to three, 2500 Chandler St.

- Chandler Elementary, grades one to three, 2500 Chandler St

- Maude Laird Middle School, grades six to eight, 2500 Shasta Way

- Kilgore High School, grades nine to 12, 711 N Longview St.

- Elder Cooperative, grades one to 12, Texas 31 West

Number of students then: Student numbers for the years before 1929 are not available, but the first year of accreditation, KISD had 350 students and 12 teachers.

Number of students now: 3,794

Superintendent then: The superintendent when KISD was accredited was E. C. Elder.

Superintendent now: Jody Clements.

Board of trustees then: L.P. Griffin, G.A. Erwin, J.S. King, P.E. Barton, S.H. Wood, R.W. Wynn Jr. and J. J. Choice

Board of trustees now: Terry George, Guy Hargrave, Mark Dickey, Dereck Borders, Bryan Cole, Janet Marley and Howard Stephens

Activities then: Sports including football, basketball and baseball were played in the 1930s. Other activities might have been available.

Acitivities now: Today KISD offers athletics to boys and girls, drama, music programs, video technologies and more.
