During their meeting last week night, the KEDC board or directors okayed Saturday, Dec. 12, as the date for the fishing event, which will be free for kids 12 and younger.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will supply the trout and the fishing gear for the children and KEDC will provide Elder Lake at Synergy Park as the location. Kilgore’s Skeeter Boats manufacturing plant employees and Kilgore Boys and Girls Club advisory council members have volunteered to man the event, said Amanda Nobles, KEDC executive director.
Fishing will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.
KEDC will also provide the bait, which in this case is canned whole kernel corn, Nobles said.
The date coincides with the Chamber of Commerce’s Mt. Kilgore Snow Hill event during the Holiday Trail of Lights, but Nobles said she talked with chamber officials and they see the trout excursion as an added bonus to the weekend events and not as competition.
“We see this as a complement to the chamber’s Snow Hill event downtown, which starts Friday night and goes through Saturday night (Dec. 11-12). It gives the people who come to Kilgore, as well as our citizens, one more activity to do while they are in town,” Nobles said.
