Kilgore Economic Development Corp. has joined forces with PAK-SHER, a Kilgore company that has been an innovator in the design and manufacture of carryout and kitchen prep packaging since the early 1970's,   to involve local students in a coop recycling program utilizing new equipment at the company.

Gov. Rick Perry leaves Texas today for meetings with top officials from Facebook and Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, and eBay in San Jose to talk about economic development issues. "Economic development, bringing jobs to Texas, has always been a priority of the governor," spokesman Mark Miner has been quoted as saying.

Enough economists have jumped on the “green shoots” bandwagon to pronounce a trend: “The worst is over, and the green shoots of an economic recovery are blossoming.”

At one time empty storefronts and scarce traffic downtown were the norm in Kilgore. Now, the area is becoming a magnet for shopping, dining and entertainment, with parking sometimes scarce. Kilgore’s Main Street Program gets a lot of the credit. And the City of Kilgore has continued its support.  And that’s good.
